The International Sugar Organization plays a pivotal role in the market of sugar at the international level.
The International Sugar Organization (ISO) had recently nominated Ethiopia to host the International Sugar Organization Summit in 2018.
Ethiopian Sugar Corporation CEO Endawek Abitie would also take over organization’s Deputy Chairmanship as of June 2017.
Endawek Abitie said the nomination in itself is a great success both for the nation and the Corporation.
During its four-day summit, the organization discussed the obstructions in sugar production; technology inputs and technical assistance required to sugar producers; market opportunities and also market linkage. The Summit has also discussed ways which would help to fill in the gaps observed.
The summit also figured out as to what the market relations should be in the future for the demand for sugar is escalating. The climate mitigation role and expansion of ethanol production were also at issue.
The summit, being a platform for sugar producers, investors as well as marketers, it has also great value to image building efforts, Endawek said.
The summit is a good opportunity to introduce the status of the nation in sugar industry to others, to get foreign market and attract foreign as well as domestic investors, he added.
Ethiopia is currently exerting relentless efforts to meet domestic demand of sugar and soon would start exporting sugar, he noted.
The Organization have 87 member countries, conduct studies, seminars, conferences, workshops as well as debates with regard to the sector advancement.
