China has pledged to continue its worldwide economic cooperation in general, Ethiopia in particular in the coming years despite the spread of global nationalism, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia said. The country is going to invest the total amount of 750 billion US dollars worldwide in the coming five years, said Ambassador La Yifan during a media briefing here yesterday in connection to the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) to be held in Beijing from 14 to 15 May 2017.
“We are going to safeguard multilateral systems. China is not going to close its doors but it is going to open widely for the international community”, the Ambassador said.
China will continue its cooperation with Africa, the source of huge untapped potentials, and the African youth in general and Ethiopia in particular, he assured. Ambassador Yifan stated his country will continue its development cooperation with Ethiopia and praised the growth the country has witnessed last year in spite of the drought.
“It is a phenomenon year for Ethiopia, despite of all the difficulties”, he stated. The country managed to achieve an eight percent growth for the last year. The continuous peace and stability which the country has been managed for years highly contributed for the sustainable economic growth, according to the Ambassador. Tourism sector which is one of Ethiopia`s endowed treasures will be the next focus of China alongside strengthening the ongoing cooperation areas, the Ambassador said.
