Ethiopian Sugar Corporation disclosed Omo Kuraz II Sugar Factory, one of the mega projects being undertaken by Ethiopia’s Government, would start trial production after 1 month.
Omo Kuraz II is one of the 4 sugar factories that are being constructed in the Omo basin, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples State (SNNP), at an outlay of 1.5 billion USD.
Out of these 4 factories being constructed, Omo Kuraz I and II are expected to go operational before the end of the current fiscal year. When the 2 factories went operational, they were expected to produce 650,000 tons of sugar every year, Endawek Abite, CEO of the Corporation, explained.
According to Endawek, 90 percent of the factory construction has been completed and the remaining tasks will be finalized soon.
Omo Kuraz II Sugar Factory was ready for production since checking and testing installed machineries has been finalized, the CEO furthered.
