Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) disclosed a couple of manufacturers at Hawassa Industrial Park would start to export their products this week for the first time. Commenting on the matter Dr. Belachew Firkre, Deputy Commissioner at EIC, said the companies had finalized preparations to provide their products outside of Ethiopia.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, if the pace of the activities goes at the same rate then Ethiopia will be able to attain its target to generate 1 billion USD from exports originated in the industry park.
Hawassa Industry Park was constructed in less than a year. It now has managed to attract 15 leading global apparel and textile from the USA, China, India, Sri Lanka and 6 local manufacturers.
Among the companies that are ready to export, the Hong Kong based TAL Apparel is one of them. The company is one of the world’s largest clothing manufacturers. The industrial park which was inaugurated in 2016 and it is expected to create 60,000 jobs when it goes fully operational. According to Belachew, the number of jobs created by the park has now reached 5,000. Each week this number grows, he noted.
Construction of 15 additional shades was undertaken in the aim of raising the total number of manufacturing facilities to 52, the Deputy Commissioner added.
