Eighteen globally popular textile and apparel companies are to launch production in the first phase of the Hawassa Industrial Park (HIP), scheduled to be inaugurated in the presence of Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn next week.
On June 20, 2017, the Prime Minister will also put a foundation stone for the construction of the park’s second phase.
To date the Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation (PVH) , an American clothing company which owns brands such as Van Heusen, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and IZOD; the Stafford Group, Australia’s largest manufacturers of tailored clothing; and Raymond Ltd, with over 60pc market share in India, are some of the giants housed in the park.
CEOs of these companies will also establish a Forum of these leading brands operating in the park.
The park was opened in July 2016 with 35 factory sheds and 19 other purpose buildings, after the China Civil Engineering Corporation (CCECC) was contracted by the government for 246 million dollars to build the facility. Close to 15 more shades were added since the inauguration by Prime Minister Hailemariam.
