The 15th International conference Opened on July 20, 2017 on the Ethiopian Economy organized by Ethiopia Economics Association.
Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said professional associations need to contribute their share for the all-round development of the country through capacity building and conducting researches.
The Premier made the remark while opening today the 15th International Conference on the Ethiopian Economy organized by the Ethiopia Economics Association (EEA).
He said the rapid economic growth being registered in the country is accelerating Ethiopia’s target of joining the group of lower middle income countries.
Due attention has been given to modernize the country’s agriculture, expand industry and strengthen the involvement of the private sector in the economic activities of the country, he added.
As part of the efforts to expand the manufacturing industry, industrial parks were built at Bole Lemi, Hawassa, Kombolcha and Mekelle, he said, adding more parks are also in the pipeline.
Accordingly, professional associations are expected to contribute their share for the country by generating new ideas, designing draft policies and conducting researches, he said.
President of the Ethiopian Economics Association, Dr Alemayehu Seyoum, for his part said the association has been conducting researches which could be used as inputs for polices since its inception 25 years ago.
The Ethiopian Economics Association is also celebrating its 25th anniversary, silver jubilee, along with the conference.
