Ethiopia Exported 17.28 Million USD Worth Cement

Chemical and Construction Input Industry Development Institute disclosed Ethiopia managed to export a 17.28 million USD worth, 195,580 tons of cement, in the last fiscal year.

Speaking about the Institute’s plan, Researcher of Cement and Related Products Industry Development at the Institute, Simegn Degu, said the plan for the current fiscal year was to increase the earnings to 40 million USD.

According to Simegne, currently there are 21 cement factories across Ethiopia with production capacity of 17.1 million tons of cement per year. By the end of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-II), the country plans to increase the average production potential and reach 27 million tons.

According to Walta Information Center, Mesobo has managed to increase its production capacity by 93 percent. On the other hand, constraints in the industry includes lack of of logistics, energy and well trained manpower are mentioned among the constraints that are hindering factories not to produce as per their potential.
