Sika AG, a specialty chemical company headquartered in Switzerland inaugurated its construction chemical manufacturing plant built in Ethiopia at a cost of 10 million US dollars.
The plant, dubbed Sika Abyssinia Chemicals Manufacturing Plc, will produce 16 types of construction chemicals, including waterproofing, sealing and bonding, refurbishment, flooring and roofing categories, among others.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Fitsum Arega, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) said that Sika is the first of its kind construction chemical manufacturing plant in Ethiopia.
The factory would help to supply construction chemicals to local market, thus enabling the country to save foreign currency. The plant’s training center and laboratory would also help to transfer knowledge for Ethiopians, the Commissioner said.
Petrisor Grindeanu, Manager of Sika Abyssinia Chemicals Manufacturing Plc, said the manufacturing plant will produce more construction chemicals in the future.
He said the manufacturing plant will supply its products for both local and overseas markets.
The construction of the manufacturing plant took one year and six months.
