State Minister Amb. Berhane Guebre –Christos discussed with Shin Don-iK, Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs of Korea, on January 27 at the African Union Headquarters. During the discussions, the two sides exchanged views on ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries generally and development cooperation in particular. The two sides also discussed regional issues. Shin Don-iK said, Korea remembers Ethiopian’s sacrifice during the Korean War. He went on to add that the solidarity shown by Ethiopians remains strong foundation of the bilateral relation of the two countries.
Shin Dong-Ik noted that the long standing Ethio-Korean relations should be further strengthened through robust strategic partnership. Shin Dong-iK appreciated Ethiopia’s endeavor in strengthening its partnership with Korea in technology transfer especially in bio-technology and ICT areas. He also expressed Korea’s commitment to enhance its cooperation through KOICA.
Ambassador Berhane for his part underlined that Ethiopia values the bilateral relation with Korea and is keen to learn from its development experience. He further noted that Ethiopia wants to broaden and deepen its relations with Korea in areas of mutual interest. He highlighted that the relationship between Ethiopia and Korea is strategic relationship based on the mutual interest of the two peoples. Amb. Berhane underlined that the increase of Korean private sector involvement in Ethiopia is instrumental to further strengthening Ethio-Korean ties. The two sides also discussed on the establishment of Korea –Africa strategic partnership center. Shin Dong-iK extended invitation to President Dr. Mulatu Teshome to visit the Republic of Korea.
