At the sidelines of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn met with various world leaders and heads of international organizations.
He held discussions with the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the President of Iceland, the Queen of the Netherlands, among others.
During discussions with Lee Yong, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the premier briefed the Director General about the efforts of Ethiopia to augment its industry sector.
Yong for his part noted that his organization was working on the provision of skill and technical support for African countries.
He said Ethiopia and Senegal, among other African countries, are on the right track to boost their industries and vowed that UNIDO is committed to support the two nations.
Ethiopian Minister Government Communications Affairs, Redwan Hussein who attended the meeting, told EBC that UNIDO has promised to facilitate ways for Ethiopia’s industry to thrive.
The President of Iceland, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson expressed his country’s interest to support Ethiopia’s ambitions in the geothermal sector.
Mentioning Iceland’s enormous experience in rehabilitating degraded lands, the President said his country remains committed to support the agricultural sector of Ethiopia as well.
It’s noted that the President would pay a visit to Ethiopia within six months’ time.
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands while discussing with Prime Minister Hailemariam expressed commitment to support women’s participation and make them beneficiaries of social and economic development.
