Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) received coffee laboratory equipment from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to beef –up coffee quality inspection and grading system of its laboratories.
The 3.5 million birr coffee laboratory devices will help equip Hawassa, Jimma and Dilla coffee laboratories of ECX with latest technologies and methodologies to carry out quality assurance, ECX said in a statement it sent to WIC today.
The equipment will enable the three coffee laboratories to meet international standards and requirements and ECX is expected to be certified by the specialty coffee association of America (SCAA) .
ECX ‘s central coffee laboratory , which was certified last year, is the first in Africa to be recognized for meeting quality standards of SCAA.
ECX Interim CEO, Shimelis Habtewold said “The donation of the coffee laboratory equipments will enable ECX to ensure calibrated global compliance with consistency in evaluation and grading of coffee.”
