Ethiopia to get Kaizen Training Center

Ethiopia is going to construct Kaizen training center so as to supply well-trained labor to the manufacturing industry.

The center, to be commissioned by the Japanese government is expected to be center of excellence for Africa in Kaizen, Director General of the Ethiopian Kaizen Institute Getahun Tadesse said.

Getahun and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Country Representative Kimura Takusaburo signed the agreement for the construction of the institute.

After signing ceremony, Getahun said the center will have a great importance for Ethiopia to achieve its goal of increasing the role of manufacturing sector in its economy in the coming five years.

The center will offer trainings as high as PhD level for trainees mostly from technical and vocational training colleges and other institutions, when it will be opened in 2018.

Ethiopia, which has been implementing Kaizen in its industries, is witnessing progress, according to Tadesse Haile State Minister for Industry.

Ethiopia has gained successful achievements in implementing Kaizen in workplaces and steady increase in productivity and work efficiency, as well as reducing industrial wastes, he added.

Tadesse noted that the institute is critical to stimulate its manufacturing sector thereby accelerate the economic growth.

Country Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Kimura Takusaburo said commissioning the construction of the institute is part of Japanese support to Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector.

In addition to making the nation a center of excellence in kaizen, the institute will serve as a driving force for the flow of more Japanese investors to Ethiopia, he added.

The construction of the institute is expected to be launched in March 2016 and set to be completed within 18 months.
