Construction machinery manufacturing industry being built in the northern part of the country will commence operation in November 2015, the Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC) said.
The industry, being built in Tigray regional state, is expected to consume 450 million Birr, construction and engineering machinery industry manager, Major Kahisay Kihishin told ENA.
The plant will manufacture or assemble construction machinery such as excavators, smooth compactors, dozers, loaders, forklifts, cranes, rock drillers, and deep well digging machinery.
The plant will produce more than 1,000 construction machinery for road, housing, electricity, telecommunications, agriculture and water works per annum, when fully commences operation.
The plant’s economic importance is high for the country, since it will help to substitute construction machinery being imported from other countries and enhance technology transfer and capacity building.
