The Ministry of Health expressed its readiness to transform its service across the nation in GTP II overcoming the overall malpractices observed in the health sector that include the trend of preparing fake reports crammed with activities that contradict with facts on the ground, among others.
Minister Dr. Kesete-Berhan Admasu said: “Fake report is dishonorable, and especially when it comes to the health sector its impact would be very devastating because it is a life and death matter.” However, the Minister said that in a bid to address the challenges in this aspect, various activities are being carried out.
Kesete-Berhan said that his Ministry has established an infrastructure which, if utilized properly, can put the trend of fake reporting to an end. Also in order to bring about community satisfaction, the Minister said, among other things, a new proclamation is soon to be effected.
He said that the proclamation stipulates the rights of patients including the right to choosing the health professional whom they would like to be treated by. This will help us to identify health professionals who are unethical and ill-treat patients, he added.
“We no more tolerate mis-treating patients for we have been able to produce health professionals in large numbers,” he said.
State Minister Dr. Amir Aman for his part said that the Ministry has created several conducive environments so as to attain the GTP II goals.
According to Amir, the availability of professionals, developmental army and health extension workers at all levels, the establishment of health institutions including hospitals, producing political leaders in the health sector to achieve the sector’s goals, among others, are the major factors. However, he said that activities with regard to improving the competence of professionals and the like are the remaining assignments to be done.
With regard to fake reporting, Amir said that attitudinal change on the part of health professionals is decisive. “Moreover, we have to strengthen our data and improve and increase our electronic system of data exchange to 100 per cent to make it faster and more complete,” he added. Besides, he said, the digitized way of data reporting gives no room for abuse.
It is to be recalled that the Ministry held a five-day September 4-9, 2015 training to middle and higher level leaders in the health sectors in Adama.
