The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) has launched a report that shows the first Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) performance in agriculture which was aimed supporting Ethiopia’s effort to ensure production and productivity using modern technology.
Presenting the report, Agency CEO Khalid Bomba said that various activities were carried out to attain the plan revising policies and proclamations, having monitoring system, establishing new networks in all agricultural centres, introducing innovative ideas and offering training to stakeholder experts over the last four years.
The CEO noted that training on modern agricultural technologies were offered to 9.7 million farmers enabling over 4.5 million farmers to apply newly agricultural technologies. About 2.2 million hectares of land has been covered by utilizing modern and newly agricultural production system, he added.
Farming and Natural Resource Development State Minister Wondirad Mandefro on his part said that smallholder farmers have applied the transformation using inputs and become successful.
The State Minister as well said that the Ministry would work hard in GTP II to scale up the agricultural transformation, increase agricultural productivity, ensure sustainable and inclusive agricultural development as well as food self-sufficiency, among others.
