Addis Ababa has become one of the final group of cities selected in a highly competitive global grant process to join the worldwide 100 Resilient Cities (100RC).
Mayor Driba Kuma told journalist that Addis Ababa was selected from more than 325 applicants on the basis of their willingness, ability and resilience in the face of future challenges, it was learned.
He said joining the 100RC helps to fight challenges of flood, terrorism, disease outbreak, and infrastructure failure.
”As a new member of 100 Resilient Cities, we can work with the best in the private, government and non-profit sectors in developing and sharing tools to plan to and respond to the resilience challenges ahead,” the mayor added.
According to him, the city will gain access to tools, funding, technical expertise and other resources to build resilience to the challenges of the 21st century.
Selected cities are part of a global community of cities working together to build urban resilience, Driba indicated.
He noted that Addis Ababa will get financial and technical support to foster its resilience strategy.
Rockefeller Foundation has pioneered 100RC to link together in a global network so that they can learn from each other’s challenges and successes.
