Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations held business-to-business meeting with South Africa business delegation this week to discuss ways of promoting business opportunities.
South Africa’s business delegation leader and Manager of African International Trade, Michael Gamwo said the delegates are here to create partnership with Ethiopian businesspersons.
According to Gamwo, “there is huge business opportunity and big market as well as economic growth in Ethiopia.”
The delegates are therefore here to see the possibility of investing in Ethiopia, he said, adding that they are mainly from agro-business sector in particular, and manufacturing as well as service provision sectors.
The agro-business and tourism sectors are the main sectors that have attracted members of the delegation and they are also interested to invest in manufacturing sector in Ethiopia, Gamwo elaborated.
The delegation leader urged more efforts from both sides to strengthen trade and investment ties among the two sides.
Executive Sale Consultant Linda Livanos representing Zhauns Company of South Africa said her company is interested in producing manufacturing machines and water purification activities.
Secretary-General of Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations, Getachew Regassa said the aim of the visit of the delegates from South Africa is to create network and hold business-to-business meeting.
Investment Promotion Team Leader of Ethiopian Investment Commission, Aschalew Tadesse said on his part the meeting is aimed at promoting Ethiopia’s business opportunities and creating investment network between Ethiopian local investors and South African business persons.
He added that textile and garment, leather and leather products, agro-processing as well as processing meat, milk and honey are given priority by the Ethiopian government in its Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-2).
According to Aschalew, the flow of FDI to Ethiopia is growing steadily since its policy is suitable for investors and the country is stable.
