Central Statistics Agency of Ethiopia (CSA) disclosed year on year inflation rate has rose to 7.9 percent in month of May. According to the Agency’s report, inflation rate for March was 7.4 percent.
The increase in the inflation rate is mainly attributable to the increase in price of food components. From the food components it was in particular butter, meat and vegetable (especially onions and garlic) that showed rise in prices.
Inflation rate for non-food also increased during May. Such was because of the rise in the prices of clothing and footwear, construction materials, firewood, household goods and furnishings.
Nonetheless, the price of chat has decrease during the month.
