The Ethiopian Diaspora Association yesterday launched Diaspora Youth Forum as its wing to strengthen the role and contribution of diaspora youth to national development.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Association President Erku Goda said the youth wing is part of the plan to bring the diaspora community together and work hand in hand with the government for the benefit of the members and the public at large.
The youth have capacity, experience and creativity, he said and added they are solution makers and capable to introduce new ideas and technologies, transfer knowledge and skill from abroad.
Association CEO Abraham Sium said there are millions of first and second generation of Ethiopian diaspora spanning to all direction of the world. And they have sense of belonging and interest to come and know their homeland.
He said the platform would create network as well as to deliberate the opportunities and challenges for the diaspora.
Foreign Ministry Diaspora Affairs Director General Demeke Atnafu said that the diaspora policy is encouraging the diaspora to actively engage in national development.
He said the Association is serving as a bridge between the diaspora and the home.
Over 300 diaspora and government officials attended the event.
