Ethiopia, Birthplace of Arabica Plans Becoming World’s Second Coffee Producer

Ethiopia, the birthplace of Arabica coffee has recently upped the ante on its coffee production capability. With over 2.25 billion cups of coffee consumed globally, it’s no wonder it ranks as second largest globally traded commodity next to oil.

With the 15th African Fine Coffee Conference coming up, Ethiopia announced plans to become the world’s largest coffee producer in a decade. In the announcement it was noted technology as key tool to enable the country improve output to the likes of developed producers such as Brazil and Colombia.

Scheduled for February 12 – 17, 2017 (Addis), the conference brings together producers, traders and professionals from across the globe showcasing coffee variety, machinery and packing products. Addis has hosted the conference twice, in 2007 and 2011.
