Ethiopia expects two industrial parks that are currently under construction to be ready for investors by February 2017 namely Kombolcha and Mekele industrial parks.
Commenting on this development, the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) Deputy CEO, Amare Asgedom, said “Basements for the construction of sheds in Mekele and Kombolcha industrial parks have been completed and fabrication process in progress to ultimately deliver the sheds to the investors.” The parks which were being constructed at an outlay of 250 million USD are expected to create job opportunities for more than 50,000 people, Amare explained.
Kombolacha and Mekele industrial parks are among the 10 parks the Ethiopian Government aims to construct within 5 years. The government has also finalized preparations to commence construction of Adama and Dire Dawa industrial parks. On the other hand, construction of Jimma, Aysha, Ararti, Debre Birhan and Bahir Dar industrial parks, which the central government will be financing, are expected to commence later this year. On the same note, the Deputy CEO explained, the construction of Bole Lemi Phase II and Kilinto industrial parks will commence in a month’s time. The construction of the 2 industrial parks would be financed by a loan obtained from the World Bank.
