Ethiopia and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have signed a financial agreement amounting 114.5 million US dollars to boost small-scale irrigation development program in Ethiopia. The agreement was signed in Rome, Italy by Mulugeta Alemseged, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Italy and Kanayo F. Nwanze, President of IFAD.
The fund will be used to implement small-scale irrigation schemes in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray and the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Regional States.
A total of 108,750 rural households will benefit from the program.
In addition to increasing agricultural productivity, incomes and resilience of ecosystems and rural population, the program is expected to create 15,000 new jobs.
Ambassador Mulugeta on the occasion said Ethiopia will do all it can and discharge its responsibilities for the success of the program.
