Ethiopia harvested 3.2 million quintals of coffee from Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ State (SNNP). Such was disclosed by Coffee, Tea and Spices Authority.
According to Executive Director of the Authority, Mesfin Kere, the plan was to harvest 3.381 million quintals during the period. The performance shows it was able to meet 95 percent of the target set.
The Director also preparations are being made to license quality of coffee which ranges from first to third levels. Such will be done to assure quality for 85 percent of the coffee production. In the aim of meeting excellence in quality, trainings and discussion are held with farmers, officers and stakeholders.
According to Walta Information Center, 25 percent of the SNNP’s population has benefited directly or indirectly from coffee production. Coffee is harvested in Sidama, Gedio, Kefa and Sheka areas of the State.
