The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MoCT) has today announced classification of 68 hotels existed in Addis Ababa. Out of the 123 hotels which the Ministry initially set to rank, only 95 have become eligible and met the evaluation criteria. And out of the 95 hotels, the star ratings were issued for 68 hotels since they met the necessary preconditions.
According to the classification, four hotels, namely Sheraton Addis, Elilly, Capital Hotel and Spa, and Radisson Blu hotels have been rated 5 stars.
Similarly, 13 hotels, namely Intercontinental-Addis, Harmony, Dreamliner, Jupiter (kazanchis), Saro-Maria, Debredamo, Nathera, Friendship, Nexus, Washington, Sarem International, Jupiter (Bole) and Tegen Guest Accommodation hotels have been graded 4 stars.
Moreover, 25 hotels have been capped with 3 stars, while 19 hotels have received 2 stars rating. Some 7 hotels have been classified under one star. According to the Ministry, the remaining 27 hotels were unable to get the star ratings.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MoCT), in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) began classifying hotels in January.
