Ethiopia is the fifth fastest-growing garment producing country in the world. The textiles sector employs mostly women. The sector makes up the third largest manufacturing industry in Ethiopia after food and leather processing.

The Ethiopian textile and apparel industry has grown an average of 51% over the last 5-6 years. Due to poor processes and lack of education, production efficiency in textile and garment assembly units is at 40-45%.

The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the only development agency that is fully dedicated to supporting the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It works with its local partner, the Center for Accelerated Women’s Economic Empowerment, to provide women with capacity building, training and support, enabling them to better meet international buyers’ requirements.

Watch the video that shows ITC’s efforts in the Ethiopian textile and apparel industry and features two beneficiaries speaking about the results of receiving training.
