The second Diaspora Day was held in Ethiopia starting from August 1 in Bahir Dar town, Amhara Regional State. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over 3500 Diasporas from different parts of the world are registered to participate. The festival is reported to have left Ethiopian Diaspora impressed by the remarkable socio-economic changes in the country.

The Diasporas who visited development endeavors in the Amhara regional State said that they have witnessed that Ethiopia is rapidly growing and this would initiate them to be part of the change.

Solomon Yirga, from Oklahoma, the U.S is among Ethiopians in the Diaspora who came to celebrate the festival and thereby witness for himself the development his country of origin has registered.

“I was here five years ago. There is a big change in five years. It is a tremendous change. I am glad to be here again,” Solomon said.

Saying the environment in Ethiopia has changed for the good, Solomon called on Ethiopians in the Diaspora to come back and invest their time, knowledge and money and be part of the development.

Miftah Seid has been living in China for the past six years. He believes that Ethiopians, weather living home or abroad, should support their motherland as much as they can.

Skilled and experienced human power would further transform the economy, Miftah said. The Diaspora, in this regard, can play a very decisive role, he underlined.

Administrator of North Shoa zone in the region, where the Diasporas are visiting development endeavors, Girma Yeshitila said on the welcoming ceremony that Diaspora has immense potential in terms of skill, technology, experience, capital and knowledge, which will make a difference in the national effort towards development.

“We have been waiting for you to come … because we want to show you what we are doing. We need you to understand the overall change in your homeland,” Girma said.
