Chief Geologist Hunde Melka told ENA that studies carried out around 23 spots in the Rift Valley have revealed that there is geothermal energy which could generate 10,800 MW.
This potential has huge contribution to the rapid growth of the economy and green economic development, he added.
Domestic and foreign investors who engage in the sector will benefit a lot, according to Hunde. Due to the positive impact of the geothermal sector on the country’s green development strategy, different international organizations and countries have been engaged widely in the exploration and study of geothermal energy, the chief geologist pointed out.
Among those who collaborate with the Ethiopian Geological Survey are Iceland, Japan, African Union, German Development Bank and France’s Development Organization, it was indicated.
